Training the Faculty – An Approach
\"The true aim of everyone who aspires to be a teacher should be, not to impart his own opinions, but to kindle minds.\" - Frederick William Robertson
Teaching is much more than just passing on information – it is sharing in the intellectual and spiritual growth of students. Schooling is said to be a civilizing instrument, teaching a community responsibility and teachers are considered to be the agents of civilization. While such a critical task lies with the teaching fraternity, ironically the job of teaching holds very little regard in society. The art of teaching though `dialogic’ in nature, with the teacher talking and the student understanding, is perceived to be a perfunctory exercise and thus looked down as a default profession. The need of the hour is to shift teaching into the status of a full profession and provide more visibility to teachers. Teaching defined as a calling in life and a vocation by birth needs to have dignity and a professional status around it.
A well structured training program that deals with finer aspects of teaching, taking it beyond the confines of the class room will aid many a teacher to hold her head high and stand tall in her own mind and in society as well. A teacher exuding confidence and pride will also teach the same values to students who will emulate her, imbibe what she stands for and value the education imparted to them and not treat school as a means to get a certificate but a journey to learning and growing.
To help make teaching a highly fulfilling and rewarding job by restoring faith in teachers in the value of their work.
- To introduce tools and techniques which acquaint teachers with emerging trends in the learning world
- To provide a platform for collaboration and consultation to achieve excellence in teaching
- To inspire teachers into turn great leaders in guiding the student community
